Local doctors resuscitate the 30th Annual Bodyboarding Pipeline Pro!

Spencer moving forward with style

It is with great excitement that IMUA Orthopedics, Sports& Health announces their sponsorship of the 2013 Pipeline Bodyboarding event. On Wednesday January 30, IMUA heard news of the cancellation of the 30thAnnual Pipeline event and stepped in and offered their full support, financially and professionally, to ensure that the bodyboarders would be able to have this great event. IMUA immediately contacted local legendary bodyboarder, Ben Severson, to see what they could do to support the event. Once IMUA committed as title sponsor, local organizers confirmed that the event status was back on.With the event being saved, other sponsors approached the IBA to provide support to make the contest an IBA sanctioned event.  The event is confirmed – three days of bodyboarding at the Banzai Pipeline on the North Shore of Oahu, due to take place during the window period of February 18, 2013 – March 1, 2013. Divisions include Mens, Women and Dropknee.

The Pipeline bodyboarding event has long been regarded as the preeminent event of the international bodyboarding tour, with hundreds of bodyboarders from around the world flocking to the event each year. When the event was cancelled last week, due to lack of sponsorship, the bodyboarding community, both local and international, were devastated at the news as well as the loss of future permit putting the annual contest in jeopardy.  The re-instatement of the event would not have been possible without IMUA’S support, the grassroots efforts of the bodyboarding community and the hard work of Ben Severson and Jason Bitzer. IMUA is honored to be able to support the international sport of bodyboarding and especially our local community to be a part of this wonderful event.

IMUA will be providing updates on their blog, Twitter and Facebook page leading up to and during the event. Stay tuned for an action packed event!
