Nicole Yukiko Gesik, D.O.

Dr. Gesik is a board certified family practice physician, fellowship trained in sports medicine with additional expertise in osteopathic manipulative treatment and functional medicine.

She received her B.S. in biology with minors in chemistry and business administration at the University of Portland and was honored as valedictorian of her 2004 graduating class.

Growing up with physical therapists as parents, Dr. Gesik was exposed from an early age to the benefits of manipulative medicine. She decided to pursue this interest by making the cross country and cross cultural leap to Pikeville, Kentucky to attend the Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine. During her medical education, she was mentored and trained by Edward Stiles, DO, a well-respected leader in the field of osteopathic manipulative treatment. She spent extensive time during her four years in Pikeville learning from Dr. Stiles and treating patients in both the hospital and outpatient clinical settings. Dr. Gesik also provided sideline care for the Pikeville College football and basketball athletic teams. She was honored upon graduation with high honors and the Edward G. Stiles Osteopathic Principles and Practice award given to the student who best demonstrated exceptional competency in osteopathic manipulative treatment and philosophy.

Dr. Gesik subsequently completed her family medicine residency at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon in 2011. At OHSU, one of the top rated family medicine residencies in the nation, Dr. Gesik received exceptional training from leaders in the field in clinical family medicine and implementation of sustainable primary care models. Given her interest in nutritional medicine and patient-centered management, Dr. Gesik has also received advanced training through the Institute for Functional Medicine.

Upon completion of residency training, Dr. Gesik returned home to Hawai'i and completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Hawai'i in 2012. She was the recipient of the Dean's Award for best resident/fellow research project at the Biomedical Symposium at the John A. Burns School of Medicine. Her study was accepted for presentation at the annual 2012 American Medical Society for Sports Medicine conference and has been accepted for publication in the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Gesik feels blessed for the opportunity to provide patients with unique care that focuses on addressing underlying causes of both medical and musculoskeletal problems. Her goal is to help patients move forward by restoring health, optimal function, and returning patients to an active life.
