When I first moved to Hawaii, I noticed that taking off your shoes before going inside someone’s home was a very common practice. I always knew it was respectful to take your shoes off, but did you know that it could also be good for your health?

Taking off your shoes at the door helps to reduce the number of toxins you bring into your living space and decreases your overall exposure. Just think about it. All day long, you walk around and the soles of your shoes pick-up dirt, chemicals and, dare I say, bits of dog and cat poo? You work hard to keep your house clean, so making a simple habit of removing your slippers will support you in these efforts.
